Costume Wisdom from a Real Life Princess
Photo Credit: Playbuzz Last week, I started writing a little bit about my love for the Disney princesses, and my belief that a modern young lady can embody the positive traits they portray.
Yay for apples right? I’ve got the recipe for the pretty little apple roses I made. I also made a homemade apple cake and custard cream sauce, but between the two, this the apple roses were definitely messier to make. And assembling them took a little practice. But the patience definitely paid off, and I think they looked better after baking than they did just sitting in the pan. Ready to get a little dirty? Lets make apple roses! Hey guys! If you’ve read some of my other posts, you’ll know by now about my love for apples. It’s crazy. I’m like apples the way other folks are about pumpkin. So bear with me as I indulge for the next few weeks. For you pumpkin people, I promise that I’ll get to that. But first, apples.
Yesterday, I posted some teaser pictures of my baking on Twitter and Instagram, and today I’m sharing the recipes with you! To start, here is how to make the amazing apple cake. I adapted the recipe from one I found on thekitchenmccabe.com. Photo Credit: Princessmovies.tv The princesses get a lot of heat for perpetuating sexist stereotypes and bad role models for young girls. I actually disagree entirely with that idea!
To be honest though, I did fall into that camp for a while in my teens. I mean, I still loved the princess movies, but I definitely looked down on the heroines for doing nothing and falling for the guy who saves them. After further analysis, I now understand why that thinking is unfair to the characters and to women. Brad and I are in full apple mode. I’m itching to go apple-picking and start making some apple pastries, and then of course eating the apple pastries! I’ve already enjoyed my first caramel apple spice at Starbucks, so as far as I’m concerned, it’s fall.
Fall is right around the corner here in Illinois, and you know what that means? Apples! Early fall is apple season, and frankly, it’s one of my favorite seasons. The leaves are just starting to change, the air is crisp (but not cold yet), and Starbucks starts to feature hot drinks again!
Early fall also puts me in mind of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, because of all the apples, obviously. If Snow White is your favorite princess, and you’re thinking about how you can infuse your fall wedding with her grace and beauty, then have I got a list for you. What I like about these ideas is that they can be used individually, or all together, and none are over-the-top princess-y. Just easy ways to add some secret Disney flair to your wedding! ![]() To celebrate the new Cinderella movie, in theaters today, I want to share how I added a touch of magic to my home! I tend to swing between wanting Disney characters in my home and wanting it to seem more "adult." My Pinterest page definitely reflects that paradox. It's probably because I'm a crazy Gemini, but it could also be because Brad and I are both grad student pseudo-adults desperately clinging to childhood. |
